Poultry & Birds

A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) for an animal intended for importation into Wyoming is valid only when:

It is issued by an Accredited Veterinarian who has personally performed a visual inspection of the animal.
It is complete and legible.
All required identification, testing, treatments, vaccinations, and declarations have been completed.

CVIs are valid for 30 days from the date of issuance unless otherwise specified by order of the Wyoming State Veterinarian.

CVIs for animals imported into Wyoming must be received by the Wyoming Livestock Board within 14 days of issuance.

A CVI is not required when:

Moving directly to an Approved Livestock Market or Recognized Slaughter Establishment for immediate slaughter.
Moving directly to a Wyoming licensed veterinarian for treatment, diagnosis, or testing and then directly back to the premises of origin.
Returning to Wyoming under an approved Commuter Permit or Adjacent State Contiguous Property Movement Permit.
Wyoming-origin animals returning directly from an out-of-state veterinarian.
Equine traveling under a valid Extended Equine Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (EECVI).

The Wyoming Livestock Board accepts electronic CVIs submitted through USAHA-approved vendors.

When official identification is required, the identification number must be listed on the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.

If cattle, bison, or yak are moving directly to an Approved Tagging Site before importation, the following statement must appear on the CVI:

The following import requirements apply to poultry and birds, including flightless birds and hatching eggs.

A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) or NPIP Form VS 9-3 is required for all bird imports.

Poultry and birds imported for exhibition, resale, commercial egg or meat production, or breeding purposes must either:

Originate from an NPIP-certified flock or another state animal health official-approved plan with a Salmonella pullorum clean flock designation; or
Test negative for Salmonella pullorum within 30 days prior to entry into Wyoming.

All hatching eggs must:

Originate from a hatchery or breeding flock classified as Salmonella pullorum clean under the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) or another state animal health official-approved plan.
Not originate from a quarantine area or disease control area unless permitted by the Wyoming State Veterinarian.
